Every grain of sand once started as a rock. Destruction is a part of evolution and life. Whether grieving death, love loss, or significant life change, strength comes in recognizing and honoring the departed.
Jewelry stands as a permanent trace of the impermanent body. Families pass jewelry on for hundreds of years, nurturing the unbreakable bonds of life through the adornment of the present.

Carving a ring creates a tangible memento to help process the vast expanse of grief-related emotions. Then, working in community, begin your path forward.
The jewelry of a departed loved one may be reinvented into a current, new version of the same materials. Cat will work closely with you to incorporate a family member's diamond or colored gemstone, melt down the gold of a loved one's old jewelry, or create something entirely new to mark your love for what is lost or changed.
Cat is inspired by liminal beauty, where the city meets the sea. You are encouraged to bring jewelry, an object related to your grief, or an inspiring found object. We'll find references in its line, form, texture, and silhouette.

Angelite
Angelite is a soft, blue-purple stone powerful in alleviating feelings of guilt, loss, and grief. It also supports the throat center and is thought to help connect with the departed.
Tourmaline
Of many varieties, tourmaline casts a protective shield on those who wear it, keeping negative energies at bay.
Moldavite
Mossy green moldavite, quoted as a primary grief crystal, emits a high frequency that breaks down grief blocks and makes space for healing.

ABOUT THE MEMENTO CARVE + HOW IT WORKS
Book a special seat with The Wax On Workshop's MEMENTO CARVE for an artistic and hands-on ring-making experience. This carving party, led by Vashon Island-based jeweler Cat McCadden, is where design, inspiration, a few tools, and a dash of instruction combine to fuel your bespoke fine jewelry-making journey.
Cat will bring her artistic and professional expertise to complete your ring after your in-person carving session in her studio. All gemstone and fine metal customizations are available; please inquire.
In her Vashon Island workshop, the GRACE GOW jewelers will cast your wax into your chosen metal, source and set gemstones, polish your ring, and professionally finish it to your matte or shiny specifications.
Then, three to five weeks later, you'll receive your custom ring creation delivered to your door.
